I am proud to announce the launch of the 2nd Global Digital Scrapbook project. This Global Digital Scrapbook will showcase how augmented reality is being used in the classrooms around the world.Project Goals:
Teachers and students will engage in discussions with others during the project about they are using augmented reality in their classroom. They will share how they are using pre-made triggers and or if they are creating their own augmented reality triggers.
Duration: 2014-2015 School year:
- You can participate in the 1st semester session.
- You can participate in the 2nd semester session.
- You can participate in both sessions.
Targeted Grade Levels/Age Groups: All ages.
How This Project Works:
Teachers will communicate via the Augmented Reality Google+ Community.

Guidelines:
Teachers will need to submit a photo that will represent their school or classroom. This photo will be used as a maker for the interactive map as well as the header for their page.
Throughout the project teachers/classes will submit images, videos, write ups, and etc... that will be added to the various pages for the Global Digital Scrapbook.

In just one click you can travel to Rome, Hong Kong, and see the pyramids in Egypt. Twenty years ago in order for you to get a glimpse of these amazing places you had to visit your local library and pray that they had some resources on them. Today all you have to do is hop on your laptop, tablet, or smartphone and you can travel the world without leaving your couch or classroom.
In August of 2013 I started working on creating my global project - the "Global Digital Scrapbook". I have gone to several conference sharing how I created my global project. I was suppose to be holding a workshop at ISTE this year helping other educators start creating their own global projects. Due to lack of people signing up for the workshop my session was cancelled. I would still like to share with you some resources on the topic.
I have created a group in Edmodo on Creating Global Projects. I encourage you to join the group if you are interested in creating a global project or if you would like to connect with others and participate in their global project. Once you click the link to join the group I will have to accept you. In the group you will be able to post your questions, ideas, or ask for help. I have also created folders with resources and tools I have used in creating my global project.

In May of 2013 I decided to set personal and professional goals. One of my personal goals was to attempt to participate in a 5K fun run. Since I made that goal I have participated in 4 separate 5K fun runs. Now keep in mind for most of my adult life I wasn't physically able to walk very far without having to stop and catch my breath, so for me to attempt to met this goal I had to work on it.
Another goal I had set for myself was professional and personal all at the same time. I am that quiet person that sits and listens to people. I've been that way my entire life. When I started my career in education I have been nudged to share my knowledge and experience with tech ed. The very 1st presentation I did that wasn't for my school district was in 2004 for the Summer MACE conference in Kansas City. Ever since then I have presented on and off, mainly for the school district I worked for. In Spring of 2013 I decided that it was time that I reach for the stars and inspire more than just my friends and colleagues, so I started submitting presentation and or workshop proposals for variety of conferences.
I stepped outside my comfort zone and reached as far as I could. I figured even if I missed the star I was aiming for that I would land among some amazing ones. I submitted a proposal for a workshop for ISTE. I thought to myself even if my proposal didn't get accepted at least I tried. I remember the moment I received the email in December from ISTE. I was so nervous, excited and a wreck all at the same time. I took a deep breath and opened the email. I ran through my house yelling, jumping up and down all at the same time. My husband had literally thought I had lost it. My proposal had been accepted, and I was on cloud nine.
ISTE was just one of a handful of proposals that I sent in that had been accepted. For the 2013-14 school year I have been honored to present at Podstock 2013 & 2014, FETC, iPadpalooza, MACE, and webinars for SimpleK12 and K12OnlineConference. I even attended and presented/lead sessions at edcampKC and edcampKS. My family along with friends have encouraged me to continue to reach out and inspire other educators.
If you plan being in the Atlanta area for ISTE and you would like to connect face to face give me a shout. I have been told that I need to hang out at the Bloggers Cafe, so you may find me there. I will be the quiet person wearing Google Glass taking in all that ISTE has to offer. My goal is to connect and share as much as possible while I am in the area.

One of the items that was added to iPadpalooza was a student film festival. This really got my attention and would like to try something similar with my students since we are one-to-one with iPads with our 7th and 8th grade students and our 5th and 6th grade students have access via iPad carts.. Hosting a student film festival has great potential to connect students with the community, for students to create something amazing and is seen by more than just the teacher.
My goal for this conference was to make connections and to learn how others go about teaching Coding/Programming in their classroom. I attended several session on this topic along with a few on how to create an app. Below you will find my notes and resources from the conference. One of my favorite things to learn about didn't happen in a session but out in the parking lot. Coming from a small town in Kansas I've only seen and heard about food trucks from television. I got the biggest kick out of the food trucks, and the food was AWESOME!

What also inspired me was Open Source Badges. I use badges in Edmodo for my students and I am collecting badges for myself on a professional level. What gets me is why didn't I think of using Open Source Badges with my students, so that they could post them in a digital portfolio.

My career is expanding by leaps and bounds and can't believe how much I have grown in the past year. My next presentation will be with SimpleK12 and my topic will be Creating Green-Screen projects using a Green Wall, an iPad, and an App. Which will take place on May 6th. After that I will be presenting at ISTE, which has also been another goal for me. My topic for ISTE is Creating a Global Scrapbook. I will be sharing what I have learning from creating my Digital Global Scrapbook Project this year. What I can't believe is that this quiet girl who sat in the back of the classroom is the 1st person to stand up and share what she has learned.
My next goal is to become a Google Certified Teacher/Trainer. I would love to be trained at Mountain View in CA. I would also love to take my oldest son with me. He would love to be a software engineer in his near feature. He has been teaching himself how to code and develop. I truly believe he will do great things in his career in software science/engineer.
I am currently a Edmodo Certified Trainer and just can't wait to see where my feature takes me. Education Technology is my passion and love to learn and share with anyone who is welling to listen.

Another project I would like to do is for my Global Project, I would like to create a walk around my school video using Glass. I have it in my mind what I would like for it to look like, we will see if I can transfer it from my mind to real life. I think it is important that those that have been sharing this Global Project with me can get a glimpse into our every day life at school, see what means to be an LMS Greenback.

I decided to use Edmodo as my platform to connect, collaborate, and to share my dream for my global project. The Global Digital Scrapbook Project for 2013-14 was then born. I created my goals and posted the outcome I wished to achieve with this project. I needed a sign-up form for those who decided to join me on this journey so I created a simple Google Form that I shared with anyone and everyone who would listen to me. By the end of October I had 75 schools from around the world that joined me in this amazing journey.
Within our Edmodo Group I created several small groups for students to use to post, collaborate, share, and connect with the other students that were participating in the project. The students can post into groups such as art, economics, culture, school life, and etc.... My favorite group is the Spanish-English group where students can share and learn either in Spanish or English. I did create yet another Google Form for students to fill out and and request to join the small groups.
This project has been a huge learning experience. When I started the project I had to be the trainer to the teachers that joined in. Most of them didn't really know how to use Edmodo or had never used it before. I created little video clips to help those that needed it among answer tons of emails and messages. I would like to think it has been a success since it is now February and the communication within the small groups seem to be running smoothly.
Some of the ways I've used Edmodo beyond just communicating with the thousand plus students and teachers was holding a LOGO submission for our project. Students submitted their LOGO designs and then I created a Quiz so that kids could vote on their favorite design. I used the Quiz feature because I could add an image to each choice. I also post the "Page or School of the Week" and I am able to see how many times that link has been clicked on. This helps to know if the participates are looking at what I post. Teachers in the project also post polling questions and discussion questions within the small groups. Students then receive either a grade for journaling or participating. We are trying to teach the students not to type in Text talk, write in complete and proper sentences, and digital citizenship all at the same time.
Now the goal is to get all of the schools to add something to the Global Digital Scrapbook. Again most of the teachers have not used the website creator I am using to host our scrapbook so I have to put on my trainer hat again. The goal is to have a completed Global Digital Scrapbook by May. I have faith that this will too happen. It takes time to get a thousand plus people all on the same page and understanding what is needed so keep an eye on the project as it grows daily.

My funny take away from the conference was getting a new nickname. When I walked around the conference and even at the airport afterwards people would come up and say Hi Edmodo Spin Girl. I had worked the Edmodo booth throughout the conference. While working the booth I presented about how I created a Global Project using Edmodo. This was the 1st time I did a "Theater Presentation" where people just came in had a seat and listened while I shared. I was a little nervous wearing a mic and having people walking around while I presented, I wasn't used to that. I did make some new best friends but only after attendees spun the prize wheel and then won an Edmodo T-Shirt. I really enjoyed meeting new people and talking with teachers that love and use Edmodo. I tried to answer as many questions as I could, if I didn't have the answer I was glad that the support staff for Edmodo was present to help out.
My favorite part of the conference was the TechShare. It was energetic and very informational all at the same time. I walked away with tons of new ideas and apps I wanted to use. Thanks to Kathy I am going to have to get my daughter the Porkfolio, the smart piggy bank. I am also going to have to find someone with a Kinect so I can do the Shapify.me. I think it would be neat to have a 3D figure of me holding my iPad, Smartphone, and Laptop. I also want to try and have my students create an encyclopedia via Wikipedia. This would be a great resource of the content my students use when doing their research projects. I also can't wait to try Flick, where you can flick or share your photos, documents, notes, and even contacts with any devices via the Flick app. As soon as I get home I will be ordering the Nomad Brush, it acts like a paint brush for your iPad.
While I was waiting to enter the keynote presentation I was showing teachers some Augmented Reality. It was fun showing and sharing what I have learned about Augmented Reality. I smiled when someone would come up to me and ask to see my interactive calling card. I had created this calling card to pass out and I had put a spin on it and added an Augmented Reality component.
When I get a chance I will be showing my staff the Quixy site. It is a search engine just for apps. TagBoard will be another tool I want to use not only with my staff but also with my students. You can search across social media hashtags.

This past week the students at LMS colored a shoe to show that they were going to stand up against Bullying and Cyberbullying. What they didn't know was that shoe was magical. With the app colAR that shoe came to life. It is taking us a little longer that I had hoped to photograph or video tape each student with their shoes. I am currently compiling all of the photos and videos and will have a video clip of the LMS students Standing Up Against Bullying..png)

How This Project Works:
Teachers and students will use Edmodo to communicate with the others in our group. Edmodo is a social network that allows students and teachers to create groups that are closed to the public.Guidelines:
Please make sure your students are using proper grammar and spelling and not using “texting” language. This is an educational group. Teachers should moderate all comments in the group. If you see anything anything inappropriate, take a screenshot of it and then delete it. Share the screenshot with that students' teacher and use it as a "teachable moment" to explain what postings should look like.Please be committed to commenting in the group about once a week. It is not fair to the other group members when classrooms don’t follow through after signing up for a project.
Students and teachers will each need to create their own individual Edmodo account with a username and a password. After you sign up I will send you an email with the group's URL so that you can join. You will also receive an email from Weebly inviting you to join.

My new goal for this project is now to connect teachers and students from around the world and help them share their stories, cultures, and traditions. There has been a change to the URL!!
After attending a "Follow Me" presentation at Podstock '13, a presentation for a "Global Read Aloud", and hearing the words from yet another presenter "Lets do something Great together", have inspired me to create a "Global Project". I want to connect my students with other students from around the world. I want to knock down the walls of our school and let my students experience cultures from around the world. 
Last year my Social Studies students sent out a plea for postcards. We did end up receiving several postcards from around the world, but most of them came from friends and family of my students.
I thought to myself what can this small Kansas town teacher do as a global project? Then it hit me, a Global Digital Scrapbook. My mind has gone crazy thinking how can I organize this project? I've decided to use Edmodo as the platform to collaborate and Weebly as the house to hold our Global Digital Scrapbook.
Now I need your help. I need you to spread the word about our "Global Digital Scrapbook". I would like to have as many people as possible involved in this project, the more the merrier. I would love to see it grow. I know with your help this project will be amazing and powerful.
