Bring Augmented Reality to Your Class with the Help of PledgeCents....

Bring Augmented Reality to Your Class with the Help of PledgeCents....

I've been sharing with teachers from all over how the power of augmented reality can transform learning.  In order to help teachers seize this power I set out on a quest to find ways I could help them obtain augmented content/curriculum for their classroom and my search led me to PledgeCents.  Similar to DonorsChoose, PledgeCents is a type of crowdfunding that has come up with an innovated solution to help teachers obtain the needed funds to bring tools, supplies, & resources such as augmented reality content/curriculum to their students.  They can even help with obtaining funds to send teachers to conferences such as ISTE.

Harnessing the power of social media PledgeCents is connecting teachers' causes with global supporters. Their only goal is to provide better education for children all over the world. PledgeCents is focused on providing an alternative means of school fundraising that goes beyond the limitations of conventional fundraising methods, and is investing in teachers and schools.  They are made up of a team of advocates who have a passion for making a difference in a life of a student.

The need of teachers come in all sizes such as obtaining augmented content, iPads, school supplies, and etc... They will help teachers with their causes through matching opportunities, helping find global supporters, and sharing via social media. One of the matching opportunities is through Facebook Likes and sharing. For example for every Facebook like pledges a $1 towards the cause. They will help you with your cause to make it a successful one. What I really like about PledgeCents is that even if the teacher doesn't reach their goal for their cause the teacher will still receive what the cause raised. They get to keep what they raised no matter what! There is no list of approved items the teacher has to pick from for their cause, they receive the funds to get what they need. PledgeCents believes that teachers know best on the items that they need and where best to get what they need.

When it comes to setting up your cause they do have some very helpful tips, visit their 7 Steps to Success page.  Make sure you include pictures and video clips on your cause page.  This really does help make your cause real to supporters. Be creative, give lots of details about your cause, and come up with a very catchy name for your cause.  If you need a 360° trigger for your cause page feel free to contact me and I can set you up with one. Show supporters how you are bringing learning to life as well as bringing the world to your students through augmented reality.  I can envision causes with titles such as Bringing Learning to Life, Seeing a Different Kind of Reality, iOpen the World, and etc...

Augmented Reality Causes Ideas:

  • 4 iPad Minis, 4 iPad Mini Cases, & AugThat's 360° Environment Triggers, AugThat's 3D Triggers, & Your Class Level of Animated Lessons
  • 2 iPad Minis, 2 iPad Minis Cases, & AugThat's Interactive Kindergarten Flashcards by Katie Ann, & AugThat's Virtual Field Trips
  • A School Site Lessons for all of AugThat's Content & a Teach Connect account for all Teachers
What ever your Augmented Reality Cause by PledgeCents may be AugThat's sales team would love to help put Augmented Reality Curriculum together to fit your students' needs.

AugThat would also like to help you reach your goal and get AR in your classroom, so any cause that includes augmented content from AugThat your school will receive a Free Pipeline account.  The Pipeline is when you add augmented content to your school's logo or mascot.  The augmented content can be the school's website, calendar, an intro video about the school, a message from the principal and etc... The school can change the augmented content monthly if needed.  AugThat would also like to give 100 3D augmented objects as well to help grow your augmented content library.  If you tell AugThat I sent you as well you will also receive a DISCOUNT! I am also working on getting teachers other types of augmented content, so stay tuned I hope I can help grow your augmented library even more.

WHY USE AR CHALLENGES .... THE SERIES .... PART 3

WHY USE AR CHALLENGES .... THE SERIES .... PART 3

Pre-made augmented triggers can take learning deeper. We are going to go a little beyond skimming the surface with some already made augmented triggers. For step 3 of the series we will be looking into how pre-made triggers that are connected to an animated lesson, a 3D model, a video, or a 360° environment can take the learning experience to the next level.

Making an Interactive Notebook, Binder, or Journal:

I know several teachers that like for students to take notes, write in a journal, or keep a running binder of resources. Why not add an enhancement to the student's journal, notebook, or binder and reinforce a concept, topic, or enhance the learning with an augmented trigger. Someone else has already done the work of creating the augmented trigger all you have to do is match it the topic, concept, or lesson. That someone being the team of Aug That. They have tons of animated lessons from 1st grade through 8th grade on both English/Language Arts and Math, which by the way they have aligned to the common core standards. They also have massive library of 3 dimensional objects and 360° environments.

Studying space and different rockets why not put a augmented trigger of the rockets you are studying in your students' notebook. When they scan the trigger the 3 dimensional rocket pops out of their notebook where they can spin it around and zoom in on the rocket for a better look. You can't really get that experience just looking at a picture.

You have a few students having trouble with retailing a story. On their journal page adhere an augmented trigger that is tied an animated lesson that reinforces how to retail a story. A student needing a little help with developing a supporting topic, print out the already made augmented trigger and have the student attach it to his or her notes, journal, or added it to the resource binder. What if a student was gone and missed how you explained how to added and subtract decimals. Stick an augmented trigger on the assignment or, in the notebook, or send home a flashcard with the trigger on it.

Studying different historical sights such as the pyramids in Egypt. Why not have the students add an augmented trigger to their notes. When they scan it a 3D model of the pyramids pops out. Want to take them to see a volcano, summit for a mount range, or an ocean reef? Add an augmented 360° trigger to your students' writing, notes, or resources. When they scan the trigger it will transform your classroom into that environment.

Example of an Interactive Math Notebook:

I've been working on a 7th grade Interactive Math Notebook for a teacher friend. This notebook is basically a spiral notebook kids are writing notes, adding foldables, and other resources that pertain to 7th grade math. The teacher gave me the notes the kids are writing along with foldables she has created. My job was to go through Aug That's library and match up the math concept with the already created augmented triggers such as adding and subtracting decimals, fractions, and etc...

Once I found the augmented trigger that went with a certain math concept I copied and pasted the trigger image on to the foldable. If there was not a foldable just notes I then created a sheet full of that the trigger I wanted to use. The kids then cut and pasted the trigger next to their notes. Below is the link to one of the math foldables I added a pre-made augmented trigger to.

The Challenge:

You will have to contact Aug That's support team for this challenge. Ask them to show you an augmented animated lesson, 3D object and a 360° environment. Let them know what grade level and subjects you are working with. Don't forget to let them know I sent you.

Once you have tried all three different pre-made triggers I want to share your experience. You can choose how you want to share it. For example you could write a blog post, Tweet out your experience, share it with a friend, or even join my Augmented Reality for Education Group and let us know about your experience. Remember when sharing via social media use the hashtag #TechieEdu.

Eagle's View .... Augmented Eagle Nests

Eagle's View .... Augmented Eagle Nests

My daughter's kindergarten class is currently hatching chicks. She had sweet talked her dad and grandpa into buying chicks so she can watch them grow up on the family farm. Her little project got me thinking about having a birds eye view of a nest and how I could incorporate augmented reality.

When we go on vacation we try to make it educational for the entire family, we visit national parks, museums and etc...  A few years ago we went to Yellow Stone National Park, and I just happened to be at the right place at the right time and snapped this picture of a Bald Eagle. Thinking about my daughter and her love to watch baby animals, I thought how cool would it be to peek into a Bald Eagle's nest via an augmented trigger.  A augmented trigger would be easier for younger kids to use and peek into a next rather trying to look up a web address.

My plan was to embed a live web cam as the augmented element.  To my surprise the Aug That team embedded several live web cams, so my daughter and her class can see into multiple eagles nest.  When you use Aug That's "Supreme Tutoring Augmented Reality” (STAR) app and scan different areas of the image you will get a different live web cam of an eagle's nest to look at.

The App you will need to use for this project is Aug That's "Supreme Tutoring Augmented Reality”(STAR).  The app is available in both the Apple App store and the Google Play store.  Aug That is developing a teacher community called Teach Connect where teachers can share their augmented lessons they have created in a safe secure environment. There is no channel to follow, no password to enter, and no other content will appear on your augmented triggers when using their platform.  What teachers like about this community other than we can share content and it is safe, is they don't have to build it.  All they have to do is send the trigger image they want to use along with the AR element and the team at Aug That will put it together for you.  The team does approve all trigger images and content, so that you know that everything in the community is safe for kids and is educational.  This does take some time for the team to go through all the requests, so give them a day or two.

How to Bring the Above Image Alive:

  • Download the Supreme Tutoring Augmented Reality. Pick the app store you need.
  • Launch the app.  Click "Start Lesson"
  • Click "Teach Connect"
  • Scan part of the image. (The corner area.)
  • Scan another part of the image. (repeat)
  • Scan the entire image.

Reflection of MACE15....

Reflection of MACE15....

Presenting at the Mid-America Association for Computers in Education a.k.a MACE is like going home for me.  MACE was the 1st edtech conference I attended in my career in education.  It is currently beginning held on the campus of Kansas State University, which just happens to be my Alma Mater.  I presented twice on the topic of augmented reality in education during this conference. My sessions were hands-on sessions where educators could play and explore the variety of augmented tools I brought along with me. Attendees explored augmented coloring pages, augmented triggers where 3D object would appear, 360° environments, and even creating their own augmented experience.

I enjoyed watching educators walk around the room as they were emerged in a 360° environment from AugThat. One educator's 360° environment had a cave and she tried so hard to enter the cave.  We talked about ways these mind blowing triggers could be used in education from setting the stage for a lesson to talking about a settings for a creative writing assignment.  These triggers can even be used for descriptive writing, comparing ecosystems, and the start of a research project.  Augmented reality is a powerful learning tool. You can almost anything into an augmented trigger and you can add almost anything as the augmented reality experience.  I shared ways I am creating augmented experiences with my students.

When I wasn't presenting I attended a few of the sessions.  I learned about Doctopus and Goobric as well as a few online tools I hadn't tried before.  When I first tried Doctopus was a year or so back and it wasn't very user-friendly so I moved on.  I am glad I sat in on this session with Ginger Lewman as she shared how to use these tools in your classroom.  The developers have made changes and it is so much more user-friendly.  I plan on trying this tool again when I teach spreadsheets.

Dr. James Beeghley was the keynote speaker this year.  I really liked his message for us not just our students to "Think Differently".  We truly need to think differently, how we see the world today will not be how our kids see the world in 10, 15, 20 years from now.

If you missed my session or any session and you want the handouts MACE does archive them and you can download them off their website or you can access them from the app.

Bringing Learning to Life with Augmented Reality....

Bringing Learning to Life with Augmented Reality....

Augmented reality is one of my passions.  I love watching kids come alive and fully engaged when they interact with augmented triggers. Students are not the only ones that come alive when they interact with augmented triggers, teachers love them too

Augmented reality is experience that super imposes computer-generated experience over a trigger image. There are several different types of augmented experiences you can interact with. These computer-generated experiences allows you to listen to music, watch video clips, interact with 3D models, or place you in an environment such as the ocean. All of these possible interactions require the student to scan a trigger image that will trigger the experience.  Thus the trigger image or target image.

Augmented Reality - IN THE CLASSROOM

Augmented Reality is an engaging tool for students and teachers, really anyone that uses it. It allows you to immerse yourself into any environment, and apply critical thinking skills to real-world scenarios.  My goal is to teach 21 century learners think outside the box and beyond their learning environments. You can take an image and create an engaging learning experience that cannot be achieved in typical two-dimensional planes, such as worksheets or on a whiteboard/chalkboard.

Because I am so passionate about augmented reality and the impact it can have in the classroom I've teamed up with Aug That.  I am creating some one of a kind augmented lessons that you can have access to and use in your classroom, on top of their ever growing interactive lessons, 3D objects, and 360° environments. Aug That is also giving free access to Teach Connect all you have to do is tell them that the Techie Chick sent you.

Teach Connect allows you to create augmented triggers in a safe environment. No channels to follow, no scanning and getting something inappropriate, a totally complete safe environment. You don't even need to know how to create the augmented experience all you have to do is send them the trigger image you want to use and what you want the experience to be. You also get access to other teacher created augmented lessons. I can even help you create and use augmented lessons in your classroom, all you have to do is ask.

Take a Demo of Aug That.  Download the STAR app and check out their Demo page.  You are going to love it.  After you have taken the Demo email Lisa@Augthat.com and tell her that the Techie Chick sent you.  She will get you connected with your free Teach Connect account.  Once my lessons are up and running you will also get access to those.

Take the AR Challenge - #TechieEdu.....

Take the AR Challenge - #TechieEdu.....

Augmented reality is a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user's view of the real world, thus providing a composite view.  Augmented reality is a tool to engage students.  There are several pre-made augmented triggers that you can use or you can create special augmented triggers of your own.  When lessons are engaging learning takes place.

Some AR Ideas:

  • Use a Augmented Color page as a writing prompt, to enhance a writing project or to teach revision skills.
  • Use the DOT Day color sheet and have kids design interactive LOGOS.
  • Elements 4D has Lessons and Printable Blocks.

History Projects On the Scene Reports Interviews with Historical Characters Audio Clips Interactive Maps.

The Challenge:

Use an augmented trigger in one of your lessons.  It could be an AR coloring sheet from colAR, Chromville, or even Color Alive. You could even use the NASR 3D trigger, Elements 4D blocks, or even Cybercase Shape Quest.
  • Take pictures of your students using the AR trigger.
  • Post your project on the AR Project Ideas board. http://padlet.com/tigerlovessmoke/arprojects
    a. What was your project?
    b. How did you use the AR trigger?
    c. What AR experience did your trigger have? (video, music, 3D object, & etc...)
    d. Did your AR trigger have more than one AR experience?
    e. What was the reaction from your students?
  • Share your AR experience with other educators.
  • Tweet out your AR Project. Use the hashtag #TechieEdu

Let's Talk AR .... 1st Google On Air Hangout

Let's Talk AR .... 1st Google On Air Hangout

Several teacher friends were wanting a weekly Google Hangout where they could get together and talk about augmented reality.  I just happen to be the owner of the Augmented Reality for Educators Google Community so I volunteered to host the weekly Google Hangout.  I had never really scheduled a Hangout before, how hard could it really be.  I went to my Google account and knowing I could click on the little plus sign next to my beautiful picture and create an event.  What I didn't realize is you couldn't schedule an On Air Google Hangout from that area.  I caught my mistake 15 minutes before our hangout was suppose to happen.  I thought I could merge the two events and create one.  For those thinking that would be possible, well it is not at this time.

Since I had messed up I had 2 events going at once.  One Google On Air Hangout and one Google Hangout.  The difference between the two hangouts is that the on air one records the hangout and uploads it to YouTube, the plain Jane hangout does not.  I tried to get the people in the plain hangout over to the on air one but it just would not work.  Me being a little on the techie side and having more than one computer had the people in the plain hangout running on my Chromebook and the on air hangout running on my desktop.  I am also lucky that I have a Yeti mic so I was able to place the mic next to my Chromebook so that everyone could hear what was going on in the plain hangout.

I played the moderator between the two hangouts.  When I ended the Edchat I had several complements on how I had handled the situation.  Even my husband commented and told me that I was meant to lead a education chat on augmented reality.  If you missed the 1st Let's Talk AR no worries it was recorded and you can watch it as much as you want.  We plan on having a weekly Google On Air Hangout once a week on Sunday at 8pm Eastern time.

I even have had a request to hold a monthly international hangout on the topic of augmented reality.

Reflection of Discover Magnet....

Reflection of Discover Magnet....

I had the pleasure of presenting to a great group of Wichita educators.  I shared with them how I have used an app that helps my students and myself create one of a kind green-screen projects.  I enjoyed watching the teachers brainstormed ways they could use this app in their classroom.  I loved watching them create their own mini video clip using the white board in front of the room or one of the mini green-screen that I brought along with me.

With the Veescope Live app you do not need a green-screen to use it.  I showed the teachers in my session how to use the plain white board as the "green-screen".  You can use any solid color background, it is best you do not use a brown background since it is very close to skin color.  I also had 4 pizza boxes that I had transformed into mini green-screens.  I brought along with me a few characters for the teachers to play with so that they could experience creating mini green-screen project.

For most of the day I was the augmented reality guru on campus.  I showed teachers how to use already pre-made augmented triggers.  Teachers had a chance to experience how these triggers work.  I loved watching them play and discuss how they thought augmented reality worked.  We collaborated on ways we could use these pre-made triggers in the classroom and started sharing on a Padlet board.  Throughout the day the teachers shared about my augmented reality session.  I needed up having several teachers come and
ask for my business card which was augmented and the resources I shared.

Towards the end of the day I shared ways teachers and students could start creating their own augmented reality experiences.  It was truly a great day of learning.

Edchat Interactive .... Reflection

Edchat Interactive .... Reflection

I had a chance to present an interactive webinar with Edchat Interactive.  This was the 1st time I had done a webinar where I could interactive with the participants.  In the past when I presented on a webinar I had 30 minutes and I did all the talking and sharing.  At the end I would answer some questions that were submitted to the moderator. I really enjoyed being able to interactive with the audience.  Even though I am use to talking to myself, being a mom of 3 kids you get use to that.  This platform made it more engaging for me as the presenter.

The topic I presented on was Seeing a Different Kind of Reality.  Augmented reality is one of my passions.  I really love sharing how I am using AR in my classroom.  I also love to learn how others are using AR in theirs. Augmented reality is a great tool to engage students.  We are just at the start of how augmented reality is being used in education.  The possibilities are literally endless.

If you missed the Edchat Interactive webinar no worries it was recorded.  The only problem watching a recording of an interactive edchat is you lose out in participating.  If you get a chance check out what topics are coming up next and join in on a interactive edchat.  I am sure you will see me again on future Edchat Interactive sessions.

Creating an Augmented Snowman....

Creating an Augmented Snowman....

3D objects are not just for a 3D printer. You can take almost any 3D file and create an augmented reality experience. To introduce my students to technology terminology I had a project printing on the high school's 3D printer.  I then took the STL file of the snowman and imported into Daqri's 4D studio along with video clips, pictures, and a link to my blog post about 3D printing and created a unique augmented reality experience. When you scan the picture of me and Olaf with Daqri's app you will experience how we built a snowman.

With Daqri's 4D studio I was able to create 3 chapters each with a different augmented reality experience.  I can even go into the studio and change the experience but added more interactive components or rearrange them.

How cool would it be if at a science fair there were trigger images that you can interact with.  You could see the student's research, video clips of them working on their projects, slide show of the projects progress, or even interview clips of the student or experts.

When it comes to students creating augmented projects the possibilities are endless.

Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

Do You Want to Build a Snowman?
It doesn't have to be a snowman...

The Pratt High school received a 3D printer and the middle school was invited to use it.  If I could have I would have done a dozen cartwheels when I heard the news.  The 3D printer arrived just in time for me to introduce technology terminology to my technology students.

Knowing how much my students love Olaf I went searching for a 3D object file of him that I could use with the 3D printer.  I found one in the MakerBot Thingiverse site.  I myself am not a designer just yet so thanks to those that have shared their designs in Thingiverse I was able to demonstrate how a 3D printer works.  My students were in awe as they watched the layers build.  By the end of the day I had students who were not in my classes wanting me to take them over to the high school so that they can experience the building of Olaf.

Seen though Google Glass
After seeing the 3D printer in action my students are blogging about their experience.  They are explaining what a 3D printer is, how it works, what materials it can use, and what they would like to create with it.  During their research on 3D printing my students descovered that their are 3D printers for food, they especially like the one that will make pizzas.

Ring in the New Year with EdTech & More ...

2015 is going to be the year of possibilities and much more.  With that thought in mind I revamped my personal website www.katieannwilson.com.  My goal is to bring all of my talents from creating interactive lessons, augmented reality, digital storytelling, to a trainer, presenter, and speaker all in one place.  I've even included a resource section were I've placed interactive activities, printable activities, even web & app tools I use.  I love to create and I love to show others how to create even more.  I would love to come to your school and help you bring learning to life.

2015 will also be a year for new ways for me to share EdTech with fellow educators.  I will be hosting an EdTech podcast this year.  The podcast will be an informal conversations about big ideas in EdTech.  I plan on sharing EdTech and ways to incorporate it into the classroom.  There will be guests, tips, and much more so keep your eye on Remarkable Chatter for my podcast "Podcast of a Techie Chick" or "Diary of a Techie Chick - the Podcast", I can't decide on a name.  If you would like to be a guest on my podcast and talk about EdTech feel free to contact me.

Becoming a Resource .....

Becoming a Resource .....

The moment you realize you are a resource for other educators is just priceless.  I had that moment today. I've been busy this week tweaking my personal website and was looking for all of the interviews and other resources I had created. As I was searching I noticed my name was tagged for the TCEA 2014 Convention. I thought to myself for a little bit, I know 2014 had been a busy year for me but I was pretty sure I had not attended the TCEA convention, even though I would have loved too.  I became a little curious and followed the link.  To my surprise I was a resource for Debra Atchison's presentation about green-screen projects.  I was overjoyed to learn I had became a resource for someone.

I became a little more curious so I did a little searching and discovered the following people had me as a resource of some kind:

I am sure there are more, those were the first ones I came across.

I love discovering how I have inspired others, helped others, and touched others in some way.  You really never know the impact you have.  As I continue on my path of being a presenter, trainer, speaker, and blogger I can't wait to see how I have inspired others.

Recap of iPadpalooza ....

Recap of iPadpalooza ....

Teachers learning about Global Projects.
I had the privilege to present and attend iPadpalooza in Austin Texas at the Westlake High School.  The crew, volunteers, presenters, and attendees were all so great.  I really enjoyed attending this conference.  I met some wonderful people, attended some inspiring session, had amazing food, and listened to some great tunes.  The conference was not just for the local Texan educators, there were several from Canada, Australia, Washington DC, and even little old me from Kansas just to name a few.  This was the 3rd year for iPadpalooza and I foresee that there will be many more to come.

One of the items that was added to iPadpalooza was a student film festival.  This really got my attention and would like to try something similar with my students since we are one-to-one with iPads with our 7th and 8th grade students and our 5th and 6th grade students have access via iPad carts..  Hosting a student film festival has great potential to connect students with the community, for students to create something amazing and is seen by more than just the teacher.

My goal for this conference was to make connections and to learn how others go about teaching Coding/Programming in their classroom.  I attended several session on this topic along with a few on how to create an app.  Below you will find my notes and resources from the conference.

One of my favorite things to learn about didn't happen in a session but out in the parking lot.  Coming from a small town in Kansas I've only seen and heard about food trucks from television.  I got the biggest kick out of the food trucks, and the food was AWESOME!

Coming soon .... Photo slide from my trip to iPadpalooza.

Thank You iPadpalooza crew for a wonderful time, cookie, food, and a great conference!

A New Journey ....

A New Journey ....

Teaching is a passion of mine.  Teaching technology skills to other educators and students is a mission, passion, and a desire of mine.  I was recently asked if I would develop online course to teach a variety of technology or 21 Century Skills to other educators.  Without hesitation I agreed and quickly started building my 1st course.  I am really into creating Green-Screen projects with my students so I couldn't think of a better course to develop first.  Since creating Green-Screen projects can be as basic as possible to as complex as you want it to be I decided to create a handful of course designated to building different skill levels of Green-Screen projects.  The 1st course will give you just the basics.  You will learn how to navigate through the app I use with my students to create these projects.  I will walk you through how to set up the app, add your background images, and finally record.

The next course will go more in-depth with the app.  You will learn how to use more than one background while recording and how to focus for example along with many other options within the app.  The 3rd course will include how to take your recordings and use them with a video editing app.

I am also developing courses to teach kids how to code at all grade levels, along with engaging presentations (not PowerPoints or a slideshow), and how to create a connected paperless classroom.

Full Circle ....

Full Circle ....

I graduated from K-State with my BS in Elementary Education in December of 2002 and my MS specializing in Classroom Technology in 2005.  Soon after my graduation in 2002 and the beginning of my teaching career I presented at Overland Park in cooperation with the Blue Valley School District on how to create interactive activities/lesson with a Smart Board. The first conference I had ever attended as an under grade was MACE in Salina.  In 2004 I attended the 1st MACE at the Alumni Center at K-State.  In 2014 I finally became a presenter at the Spring MACE conference.  My topic for my presentation was how to Create a Global Project. It took a full ten years, but it finally became Full Circle for me. My career in Education started at K-State and I finally was able to present at at the 1st conference I had ever attended.  In the past 11 or so years I have presented at several conference, talked one on one with several teachers/educators, and even created several workshops.  I truly felt at home when I presented at MACE this year even though it was a small group.  I felt like I connected with the educators in the session I was presenting at. When they left I truly felt like they become new fans of my Edmodo and were willing to start a new Global Project.

My career is expanding by leaps and bounds and can't believe how much I have grown in the past year.  My next presentation will be with SimpleK12 and my topic will be Creating Green-Screen projects using a Green Wall, an iPad, and an App.  Which will take place on May 6th.  After that I will be presenting at ISTE, which has also been another goal for me.  My topic for ISTE is Creating a Global Scrapbook.  I will be sharing what I have learning from creating my Digital Global Scrapbook Project this year. What I can't believe is that this quiet girl who sat in the back of the classroom is the 1st person to stand up and share what she has learned.

One of the goals I had which I really had not shared was to become a Google Glass Explorer.  Thanks to a co-worker and her belief in me I become one this week.  I can't wait to share this technology with my students and staff.  My family did get to use Glass before me.  I was busy presenting "How to Create a Global Project" at MACE when the package was delivered to my house containing the Google Glasses.  I received the text that they had arrived while I was presenting.  My family took the honor of taking pictures of themselves wearing Glass and sending the pictures to me while I was at the conference.  My 5 year old daughter was the 1st Wilson to wear them.  I believe she will be like her mom and be an early adopter for technology.

My next goal is to become a Google Certified Teacher/Trainer.  I would love to be trained at Mountain View in CA.  I would also love to take my oldest son with me.  He would love to be a software engineer in his near feature.  He has been teaching himself how to code and develop.  I truly believe he will do great things in his career in software science/engineer.

I am currently a Edmodo Certified Trainer and just can't wait to see where my feature takes me. Education Technology is my passion and love to learn and share with anyone who is welling to listen.

Reflection of FetC 2014 ....

Reflection of FetC 2014 ....

FetC is a national technology educational conference held in Orlando Florida.  I had the pleasure of attending and presenting at this very energetic tech ed conference.  I met some amazing people and learned a lot thanks to a good friend Brenda for letting tag along.

My funny take away from the conference was getting a new nickname.  When I walked around the conference and even at the airport afterwards people would come up and say Hi Edmodo Spin Girl.  I had worked the Edmodo booth throughout the conference. While working the booth I presented about how I created a Global Project using Edmodo.  This was the 1st time I did a "Theater Presentation" where people just came in had a seat and listened while I shared.  I was a little nervous wearing a mic and having people walking around while I presented, I wasn't used to that.  I did make some new best friends but only after attendees spun the prize wheel and then won an Edmodo T-Shirt.  I really enjoyed meeting new people and talking with teachers that love and use Edmodo.  I tried to answer as many questions as I could, if I didn't have the answer I was glad that the support staff for Edmodo was present to help out.

My favorite part of the conference was the TechShare.  It was energetic and very informational all at the same time.  I walked away with tons of new ideas and apps I wanted to use.  Thanks to Kathy I am going to have to get my daughter the Porkfolio, the smart piggy bank.  I am also going to have to find someone with a Kinect so I can do the Shapify.me.  I think it would be neat to have a 3D figure of me holding my iPad, Smartphone, and Laptop.  I also want to try and have my students create an encyclopedia via Wikipedia.  This would be a great resource of the content my students use when doing their research projects.  I also can't wait to try Flick, where you can flick or share your photos, documents, notes, and even contacts with any devices via the Flick app.  As soon as I get home I will be ordering the Nomad Brush, it acts like a paint brush for your iPad.

While I was waiting to enter the keynote presentation I was showing teachers some Augmented Reality.  It was fun showing and sharing what I have learned about Augmented Reality.  I smiled when someone would come up to me and ask to see my interactive calling card.  I had created this calling card to pass out and I had put a spin on it and added an Augmented Reality component.

When I get a chance I will be showing my staff the Quixy site.  It is a search engine just for apps.  TagBoard will be another tool I want to use not only with my staff but also with my students.  You can search across social media hashtags.
